The Department of Acting Arts at Soongeui Women’s University won the Bronze Prize in the University Theater Competition category at the 25th World Two-Person Play Festival. This achievement marks the department’s first participation and first award at the festival, and is regarded as a meaningful example demonstrating the department’s practice-oriented education and the students’ creative capabilities on a national and international stage.
The World Two-Person Play Festival is an international performing arts festival that brings together professional two-person theater artists from Korea and abroad. Focusing on minimal casting, the festival explores the existence of human relationships and the essence of communication. It features various categories, including official selections, university entries, citizen participants, and invited international performances, with over 100 two-person productions presented each year.
This year’s festival drew approximately 130 teams nationwide in the preliminary round, of which 52 universities advanced to the finals. Among the finalist teams, the Acting Arts Department of Soongeui Women’s University was selected as a Bronze Prize winner.

The department presented a finely interpreted two-person adaptation of a play by Samuel Beckett, earning praise for its restrained yet powerful acting and its clear and thoughtful interpretation within a tightly led stage format. In particular, the carefully structured emotional flow and highly focused stage management throughout the performance drew the attention of the judging panel, resulting in a meaningful outcome that demonstrated artistic merit, production quality, and educational value.
The performance was produced as part of the activities of the department’s representative theater club, “Gwangdae,” with second- and third-year students collaborating on the production. For third-year students, it was their final official performance before graduation, while for second-year students, it marked their first experience participating in a university theater competition—adding significance as a hands-on example of the integration between coursework and extracurricular activities.
Notably, the award was a group prize rather than an individual honor, recognizing the overall completeness of the production, including acting, directing, stage composition, and teamwork. This result demonstrates that the department’s educational philosophy and creative process are translating into tangible achievements in professional performance settings.

A representative of the Department of Acting Arts commented, “Since the establishment of the department, we have consistently focused on practice-based education and creative activities. This award confirms that our students’ acting skills and performance production experience are gaining competitiveness on external stages.” The representative added, “This achievement is the result of the students’ dedicated preparation, combined with active departmental support and the guidance of our faculty.”
The Department of Acting Arts at Soongeui Women’s University plans to continue expanding stage opportunities that connect education with practical performance experience through a wide range of future productions.
