Soongeui Women’s University held a town hall meeting on the 9th at Dream Square, where the university president and enrolled students engaged in direct dialogue. The event was jointly organized by the Student Council and the Innovation Project Group with the aim of strengthening a student-participation–based communication structure. Representatives from the Student Council, the Student Representative Council, and each academic department attended the meeting.
The event began with an explanation by the Innovation Project Group on the background and purpose of introducing the town hall meeting. The group emphasized that it was “a new attempt to directly reflect student opinions in the policy-making process and enhance transparency in university governance,” explaining that the meeting was designed to move beyond formal discussions and provide a platform for students to convey their voices directly to the president.
During the main question-and-answer session, department representatives raised issues collected from students in their respective majors and engaged in in-depth discussions with the president on topics including ▲expansion of extracurricular programs and diversification of teaching methods ▲enhancement of counseling, career support, and internship opportunities ▲improvements to campus facilities and environment ▲realization of the university’s social values ▲the university’s vision and strategic initiatives.
A student from the Department of Visual Design who participated in the town hall meeting shared, “It was meaningful that this was not a formal event, but a sincere opportunity where the president and the Innovation Project Group truly listened to students’ concerns and discussed them together. In particular, receiving immediate feedback on issues that could be addressed right away was very encouraging and appreciated from a student’s perspective.”
In response to a question from the Student Council President regarding the university’s vision and future direction for innovation, President Kyung-ho Park stated, “We are living in the midst of a massive transformation toward a super-intelligent era that surpasses human intelligence,” adding, “To provide education that keeps pace with this rapid change, our faculty and staff are continuously pursuing innovation. We will do our utmost to ensure the university achieves sustainable growth and that every student can reach success.”
The Innovation Corporation of Soongeui Women’s University announced that, starting with this event, it plans to promote the regularization of town hall meetings in consultation with student self-governing bodies. This town hall meeting, as the university’s first initiative to foster a student-centered campus culture, is expected to serve as a turning point in expanding student participation in the policy decision-making process, as the president personally attended, listened to student voices, and engaged in open discussion.
